The first, Where the Sky meets the Sea, was made in 2016 specifically to accompany and support his 2017 exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, which opened to the public just 13 days after he died.
The second, entitled Eclipse, he made at the invitation of Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway to raise money for her eponymous Foundation. The launch of this edition was to be timed to coincide with the announcement of the Queen Sonja Print Award in November 2018, an award that is only given every two years by the Foundation. Each of these two final etchings is stamped with the artist's signature and is accompanied by a certificate from the artist's estate.
These are the final prints that Hodgkin made.
