New paintings by Julian Opie, who presents twenty-first century versions of time honoured artistic genres, such as historical portraiture, will be displayed alongside a celebrated self-portrait of Sir Anthony van Dyck at the National Portrait Gallery, London, this autumn.
The portrait of van Dyck, which dates back to 1640, was saved for the nation three years ago following a high-profile fundraising campaign and will return to the gallery in October after a nationwide tour.
